A thoughtful approach to spine care.
I became a spine surgeon because I like solving complicated problems, but I've learned that the most important part of treating a spine problem is understanding the person experiencing it.
When I meet a patient, my first goal isn't to find an operation. It's to understand what's causing their symptoms, how those symptoms are affecting their life, and what options make sense.
Sometimes the right next step is more time or non-surgical treatment. Sometimes it's an endoscopic or minimally invasive procedure. And sometimes a more traditional operation is the better approach.
My job is to help you understand the difference.
A little about me.
I grew up in Newton, so being able to come back and practice in the community where I was raised means a lot to me.
Before medicine, I studied engineering. I think that background still influences the way I approach spine problems. I like to understand how things work, figure out what’s actually causing the problem, and determine what really needs to be addressed, without doing more than necessary.
I completed my orthopedic surgery residency at Tufts Medical Center and my spine surgery fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where I trained in everything from endoscopic and minimally invasive techniques to complex spine surgery.
Having different surgical options is important. But knowing when not to operate is just as important.
I want my patients to leave understanding what’s going on, what their options are, and why I’m recommending one path over another.
